Fire Departments Team Up to Fight Fire on Moving Train

Posted: Updated:

A train moving down south through Claremore was slowed Thursday morning by an electric fire in the rear engine.

Officials at the scene told KTUL that around 6:55 a.m. Thursday Catoosa Fire Department was made aware of a possible fire on board of a BNSF train headed south along East Highway 66.

Mike Shaffer with Verdigris Fire Department said they teamed up with Catoosa and responded to the train. When they arrived they found an electric fire in the engine.

Shaffer said that both authorities were able to get the fire extinguished with dry chemicals, disconnect the power source and cool off the engine. There is still no word on what caused the fire.

No injuries were reported at the scene.
