Rescue becomes recovery effort for missing fisherman

Posted: Updated:

(KATV) Conway - Recovery efforts continue for a Conway man missing since Tuesday. Forty-three year old Mark Russell's boat was found at Toad Suck Dam, downstream from where he started at Cadron Settlement Park.

Arkansas Game & Fish crews stopped their efforts before 2 p.m. Thursday because of the water conditions, but family members say they will stay until a storm forces them out.

It is a large body of water. Mark Russell could be anywhere within the six miles from where he put his boat in the water to where it was found.

He wasn't wearing his life vest, making the recovery effort more challenging.

Searchers have also been on foot, looking on shore and sands bars. Russell's brothers have joined the efforts. They've been on the water from sun up to sun down.

His aunt has not left her post on the boat ramp where his truck and boat trailer were found. She says Mark Russell was raised fishing here, knows the area well and it is obvious he had a terrible accident on the water Tuesday.

Mark Russell is married, has a daughter and three step sons. Investigators have evidence that suggest the boat was traveling at a high speed and hit something like a log in the water that would have caused Russell to be ejected.

Arkansas Game & Fish officers will return at 9 a.m. Friday to continue searching.
