Woman charged in SAU theft faces new charges

Posted: Updated:

ASHDOWN, Ark. (AP) - A woman convicted of stealing horses from Southern Arkansas University has turned down a plea deal in a separate case that accuses her of stealing cattle from a ranch in Little River County.

Wendi Cox appeared in court Tuesday to discuss a possible plea bargain. She's charged with theft of property for allegedly stealing 15 heifers from a ranch in October 2011. The animals are valued at $10,500.

The Texarkana Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/13hHGo4 ) that prosecutor Bryan Chesshir offered a plea deal but Cox turned it down. Cox said afterward that she's innocent.

She also said she'll win her appeal in the SAU case. In March, a jury sentenced Cox to 60 years in prison for the theft of 5 rodeo team horses, including one that turned up dead in Oklahoma.
