Ribbons on Junction Bridge bring attention to foster need

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Nearly 4,000 ribbons lined the Junction Bridge Tuesday.

Each of the 3,982 ribbons represents a child currently in the Arkansas foster care system. While nearly 4,000 may sound like a lot, the Department of Human Services  will serve nearly twice that many in a single year.

The director of family services, Cecile Blucker, said the ribbons are to let the community know how many kids are in need of safe homes.

"We used the different colors to represent the different ages, the different sexes, the different ethnicities, the different reasons children come in, to care the different needs that each child has, to show that each child is unique," said Blucker.
