Mom, carrying baby, allegedly pepper sprayed employee trying to stop her from shoplifting

A mom who was carrying her six month old baby is accused of pepper spraying a west Little Rock department store employee who was trying to stop her from shoplifting.

Gabrielle Haney, 22, was arrested along with Denotra Speed, 23, around one PM Sunday for stealing from the Khols on Chenal Parkway. Officers say Haney was holding her baby when she and Speed were stopped by a store loss prevention officer for shoplifting children's clothing.

According to the report, Haney then pepper sprayed the employee directly in the face, neck and chest. Haney and Speed drove away but the Khols loss prevention officer was able to take down their license plate number.

Little Rock police looked up the car's registration and found the Haney and Speed at the apartment listed.

Haney is charged with of robbery and endangering the welfare of a minor. The six month old baby is now in the custody of his grandparent.

Speed is charged with robbery as well as booked on a separate warrant out of Little Rock traffic court.
