Tulsa and Catoosa Crews Battle Strip Mall Fire

Tulsa, Oklahoma -

A burning strip mall near the Hard Rock Casino has Tulsa and Catoosa Fire Fighters busy Saturday, May 4.

Dark, heavy smoke filled the air around the strip mall near 19000 E. Admiral Place. The strip mall houses a Dollar General, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Goo-Ruu Pizza, as well as others.

TFD received the call around 9:01 a.m. and arrived after Catoosa Fire Department. Smoke was coming from the west side of the building.

At this time, no other business have been damaged by the fire besides the Dollar General and pizza shop. The other businesses may have smoke damage.

"There was no injuries, and there was no one in the occupancies when they arrived," said Assistant Fire Marshal Ricky Bruder.

Channel 8 spoke with one of the workers at Dollar General. He said he was in the store and smelled smoke. There were also men unloading a truck for the company. Everyone was able to get away from the building safely.

Grayson Shockley, 17, is the son of Goo-Ruu Pizza's owner. He said his father is nearing his third anniversary with the shop.

"Having this happen, I really don't know what to think about it right now," said Shockley.

Investigators continue to investigate the cause of the fire and whether it broke out at Goo-Ruu Pizza or the Dollar General.
