NLR Police Dept. participates in National Drug Take Back

NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) -

The North Little Rock Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration provided the public with an opportunity to prevent pill abuse by safely ridding their homes of potentially unwanted, unused, and expired prescription drugs Saturday.

Last September, citizens in North Little Rock turned in more than 110 pounds of prescription drugs, according to NLRPD. Nationally, Americans turned in 242,000 pounds.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.

Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet, according to NLRPD.

People are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines, flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Permanent drop off locations are listed at artakeback.org.
