Chelsea Clinton in Arkansas for Global Youth Service Day

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - The former first daughter of Arkansas - and the nation - was back home Friday.

Chelsea Clinton came to Little Rock for Global Youth Service Day.

She joined local high school students at the Rice Depot as they helped put together packets of rice and other food. Those packets will go in backpacks and be distributed all over the state to students who might otherwise go hungry.

About 200 high school students from all over the city of Little Rock took part in Friday's event.

"I think that these kids are giving us a message," said Clinton. "I think so frequently, this generation, the so-called 'Millenials," are branded as being disinterested, disconnected, sort of only focused on themselves and clearly these kids here today are showing nothing could be further from the truth."

Global Youth Service Day was established in 1988. It's the largest service event in the world and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth.
