Fundraiser to benefit State's largest domestic violence shelter

Posted: Updated:

(KATV) Caribbean Cabaret, the 8th annual fundraiser for Women & Children First, is cruising over to the poolside gardens of Tiffany and Daniel Robinson's Edgehill estate. This tropical shindig will be held the evening of Saturday, May 18th from 6 – 10 pm, and this year, guest are asked to wear white while they enjoy island fare and libations including a signature Caribbean cocktail.

All proceeds from Caribbean Cabaret will benefit Arkansas's largest shelter serving domestic violence victims, Women & Children First. The profits will help develop expanded services for the shelter's clients who receive emergency shelter, food, clothing, advocacy, counseling, and additional programs.

Women & Children First is a not for profit organization that provides emergency shelter accommodations and a 24 hour domestic violence hotline. In 2012, nearly 600 women and children sought refuge at the shelter and over 1,500 crisis calls were answered.

Cabaret will hold live and silent auctions, and guest will be entertained by the classic 80's band, Class of '87.

The WCF young professional junior board, The Peacekeepers, is hosting this event. Peacekeepers Board President, Ashley Nabholz, says, "There are several springtime events held in ballrooms or the River Market Pavilion. We want to give our guests a unique experience by hosting Cabaret in a lush poolside setting with great dance music, delicious island-style eats and drinks, and incredible auction items – even a chance to win a Yeti Cooler!"

If you can't attend, you can still support the cause with a $10 donation. For each $10 you will automatically be entered in a drawing for a yeti cooler.

Chaired by Shay and David Matthews, this event is particularly special to them. They hit it off upon meeting at Cabaret in 2011 and were married shortly thereafter. Shay explains, "When I was introduced to David at Cabaret, I knew he was special. His heart was in the right place; we both wanted to make a difference for the women and children that so desperately needed a voice. Together, we are committed to finding a safe place for these victims of domestic violence, and WCF makes that safety possible."

Nabholz says white is the suggested attire for this year's Cabaret, "So pull out those linen pants and chic, white sundresses."
