Community Activist Nate Waters Dies At Age 35

Posted: Updated:

A community activist who turned his life around after a spinal cord injury has died.

Nate Waters passed away Sunday.

His injury came during a domestic dispute with his mother's boyfriend 16 years ago.

He was placed in a nursing home, but worked to get his G.E.D. and bachelor's degree.

He was on the board for the Center For Individuals With Physical Challenges.

KTUL.com featured him in a story back in 2010 when he was trying to get sidewalks put in by the center.

"He cared about people with disabilities, but he cared about Tulsa as a whole," says friend Chris Stice. "He cared about this community. It spoke volumes of his character."

Waters was often seen volunteering at events around the city.

He was 35 years old.
