Trial set for man charged in Forrest City death

Posted:

FORREST CITY (AP) - A July trial has been set for a man charged in the 2010 shooting death of a Forrest City man.

The Times-Herald reports that Circuit Judge Richard Proctor scheduled a July 22 trial for Clayton Douglas Johnson. Johnson is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 52-year-old Roosevelt Willis.

Two others are charged in Willis' death, and both are due in court later this month.

Prosecutors say Willis was killed outside of his home on the same day that his stepson, 25-year-old Adrian Lay, was accused of killing Kordarius Walker. Authorities say that Willis was killed in retaliation to Walker's death earlier that day.

Lay eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
