Tulsa's Channel 8 Honored for Journalism, Community Service

Posted: Updated:

Tulsa’s Channel 8 has won six regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

KTUL took top honors in the best newscast, continuing coverage, news series, feature reporting, writing, and photography categories.

"It's an honor to be recognized for strong journalism and it's a privilege to be part of a station team that places a big emphasis on serving Tulsa and the surrounding communities," News Director Carlton Houston said.

The Murrow Awards are given annually by the Radio Television Digital News Association to honor journalists who “demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of electronic journalism.”

KTUL was one of only two stations from Oklahoma to win in the Oklahoma and Texas region.

The Murrow Awards come on the heels of the announcement that Tulsa’s Channel 8 would be honored with a Service to America Award by the National Association of Broadcasters in June.

The Service to America award recognizes a station for outstanding community service. It is the second time KTUL has received the award.
