Craighead County receives IRS refund

Posted:

JONESBORO (AP) - After paying the Internal Revenue Service nearly a quarter million dollars in penalties and interest - Craighead County has received a refund of more than $131,000.

The county paid about $245,000 to the IRS for employment tax issues and failing to file required reports that dated to 2004. County Clerk Kade Holliday said Thursday that the IRS has refunded $131,637.

Holliday - who was elected in November - says changes that include software and computer upgrades are intended to prevent the mistakes from happening again.
