Missing 15 year old identified as murder victim

(KATV) North Little Rock - A 15 year old reported missing by his grandmother on April 7 has been found dead. Friday, Channel Seven reported that a body was found in a field. It has since been identified as the missing North Little Rock teen, Austin Addie.

Austin told his grandmother he was staying the night with a friend. She told Channel Seven that when he didn't show up the next day, she reported him missing because he has never gone a day without calling. That's when she knew something was terribly wrong.

Now investigators are trying to track down what happened in his final hours and who he was with.

A missing person report on 15 year old Austin Addie was sent to all North Little Rock officers, entered in a statewide and national system, but family is upset it stopped short of an Amber Alert.

Sgt. Brian Dedrick explains, "With this particular missing juvenile, we were not advised of any danger."

His body was found Friday, five days after family last heard from him. Police say someone riding a four wheeler found Addie's body in a field at about 12:50 in the afternoon at Saunders and Campbell roads just 5 miles from his home. Addie's grandmother passed it every day while looking for him with people she paid.

Investigators are looking over evidence at the scene to determine if he was shot there, or dumped. "Do to the state of his body; we know he had been there a couple days. Other than that we don't have an exact timeframe."

Sgt. Dedrick says someone knows what happened and needs to come forward. Plus, the family needs closure. "A homicide in itself is a tragedy and we utilize all of our man power to make sure we investigate every lead that comes in. But when this happens to a juvenile, we are definitely working around the clock to try to find out who is responsible for this and what exactly transpired."

Austin Addie's funeral is Saturday. It's the city's 5th homicide.
