KIPP Tulsa Prepares for "Are You Smarter Than A KIPPster"

Posted: Updated:

Students from a Tulsa charter school prepare to match wits with civic and community leaders.

Eighth graders from KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory stopped by KTUL Tuesday to talk about their event coming up Thursday night.

"Are You Smarter Than A KIPPster" is a fundraiser for the school, and will feature students answering questions in a competition. Executive director John Wolfkill explained the event gets a lot of sponsorship and backing from businesses and foundations in Tulsa.

"Think of 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader' meets 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' with the audience is very involved with lifelines getting involved in the evening's events," Wolfkill explained.

To demonstrate, 8th graders Clifford and Kerrigan schooled Good Morning Oklahoma's Laura Moss and Channel 8 meteorologist Bud Ford (see the video above.) Team GMO gave the KIPPsters a run for their money, but the KIPPsters held on to win.

The event is this Thursday, April 18th at 6:00pm at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown. There are still some tickets available. Contact the school's office at 918-794-8652 for more information.

Channel 8's Kristin Dickerson will be one of the community leaders up against students in the contest.
