Severe storms destroy homes, injure 5

In Van Buren County, at least six homes were destroyed leaving those families looking for somewhere else to sleep Wednesday night. The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) says 55 homes were damaged in the state. Thirty-three of those homes were in Van Buren County, 15 in Izard County.

Five people were hurt according to Tommy Jackson with ADEM. In Horseshoe Bend Police say a woman suffered a broken leg due to the storms.

The National Weather Service is surveying areas Thursday to determine whether tornadoes or strong winds caused damage.
