11 arrested in NE Arkansas child rape, porn case

Posted: Updated:

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Law enforcement officers have arrested 11 people in northeast Arkansas on rape and child pornography charges involving a 12-year-old girl.

Jonesboro Police Sgt. Lyle Waterworth told reporters that local, state and federal officers arrested seven adults and four juveniles in various cities and towns in the region on Tuesday.

Waterworth says the investigation began in December with the report of a runaway 12-year-old girl. Waterworth says the girl eventually returned home and her mother found numerous suspicious text messages on the girl's cell phone.

Waterworth says police found explicit photos and about 59,000 text messages on the phone.
