Three Arkansas school districts listed as 'In Distress'

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - The State Board of Education will be keeping a closer eye on three school districts.

The board voted Monday to list the Hughes School District in St. Francis County in fiscal distress. A team will assess the schools' money problems and help create a plan to return the district to financial stability.

Both the Lee County School District and the Strong-Huttig School District in Union County are now classified by the state as being in academic distress.

Academic distress means at least 49.5 percent of students are scoring below proficient or advanced on benchmark exams. The state will put together teams to look at both districts and hopefully discover what's causing these low scores.
