Pittsburg County Drivers Cautioned Along Highways

Posted: Updated:
Pittsburg County, OK -

State authorities are warning drivers in areas of Green Country Thursday morning as the steady rain continues to fall.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation told KTUL.com that as of 5 a.m. Thursday three highways are being closed due to high water. All three highways are located in Pittsburg County.

According to their release, the highways closed include:

   - SH-63 from Haileyville west to Bache Road (approximately 14 miles)

   - SH-31 west from the Stephen Taylor Industrial Park west of McAlester to Haywood (OPEN)

   - SH-31 west from the SH-31A junction south of Stuart extending east to Haywood (OPEN)

Officials also cautioned area drivers to heed warning signs and to not drive around barricades.

Meteorologist Andrew Kozak provided a weather update this morning adding that the last round of rain (even a little sleet and a few flakes mixing in way out West) will come to an end this morning over most of Green Country.

"The upper air pattern changes quick enough for a nice turn around of temperatures and sky conditions by later today," Kozak said.

KTUL.com will have more information from the department of transportation as it becomes available.
