Governor has questions about oil spill

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - The governor said he's waiting for more information before deciding whether or not to declare the Mayflower oil spill a disaster area.

While he gathers information about the spill, he said he has a few questions of his own for those who own and operate pipelines in the state.

"How old are some of these pipelines? How often are they inspected? What safety measures are in place to ensure proper maintenance? And how safe are all people and all our water supplies?"

The governor also addressed the Keystone Pipeline Wednesday saying that anytime a disaster like this occurs, it makes you re-evaluate the future. he said our demand for oil isn't subsiding so pipelines like Keystone are needed but you have to make sure they're safe.
