UPDATE: Lockdown lifted at Hot Springs' Lakeside Middle School

Posted: Updated:

HOT SPRINGS (KATV) - A middle school was put on lockdown Wednesday morning after a man was seen running into woods nearby.

Ofc. McCrary Means with the Hot Springs Police Department told Channel 7 News that the unidentified man was seen running into woods near Lakeside Middle School so the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The man never entered the school and officials say students, teachers and staff were never in danger.

A female was in the car with this man at a nearby Valero fuel station. Ofc. Means said he did not know of any crimes that were committed in this case. The pair were simply acting suspicious so officers wanted to speak with them. When they started walking toward the car, the man reportedly ran.

A post on the Hot Springs Police Department's Facebook page said that while there were reports the suspect had a gun, no weapon was ever found. Both the man and woman were taken into custody. No word on if any charges will be filed.

The lockdown at Lakeside has since been lifted.
