Update: Suspect dead in officer-involved shooting

Posted: Updated:

BRYANT (KATV) - A suspect was shot and killed by police after he and police shot at each other in a late night standoff.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at the Fred's store at 3395 State Highway 5 around 11:00 Tuesday night.

Arkansas State Police (ASP) investigators said an officer on the scene first found the suspect - later identified as Illinois murder suspect Thomas O'Dell - in a fenced area along the west side of the building. As a second officer approached the store, O'Dell and the first officer shot at each other.

O'Dell was hit and died at the scene. The officer was also shot. He was taken to a Little Rock hospital where he was treated and released. He is expected to make a full recovery.
