Update: One dead, eight injured in nuclear plant accident

LONDON -

New information Sunday night revealed one person died from a maintenance accident at the Arkansas Nuclear One plant in Pope County, while at least eight others were injured.

The Arkansas Department of Health responded to the accident at Arkansas Nuclear One, and determined no one was at any dangers for possible radiation or pollution.

An ADH spokesperson said around 7:45 Sunday morning the accident occurred in a turbine building separate from the reactor.

Entergy Arkansas released a statement saying one employee had been killed and eight others were taken to a nearby hospital. Two of those people remained in the hospital Sunday night.

The accident happened when a crane collapsed while moving a large generator, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Both plants remained in stable shutdown condition.
