Bomb Threat: Cherokee County Officials Still Investigating Courthouse

Cherokee County officers are continuing their investigation at the courthouse Wednesday afternoon after a phone call was made about a potential bomb threat.

Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault told KTUL.com that officers were made aware of the bomb threat at the courthouse around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The courthouse is located in Tahlequah.

Chennault said that following the phone call Tahlequah Fire and Police responded to the courthouse where they evacuated a total of 240 people. Oklahoma Highway Patrol and their bomb squad were called to assist the emergency crews during the response.

Around noon, officials announced no evidence of a bomb but continued to sweep the building. Two suspects are currently being questioned for their involvement and police are attempting to trace the phone that called in the threat

Chennault said that the courthouse will remained closed through 1 p.m. No other information was available at the time.
