Tulsa Girl Turns $1 Into Much More To Help Other Local Kids

Posted: Updated:

A Tulsa 5th grader turned a class project into a good cause and it's still going.

Kierstyn Barnes was given a dollar to see how she could utilize it to make a difference.

With the help of family and friends, she quickly turned that dollar into $400.

She used the money to create 35 Build-A-Bears and delivered them to a local shelter for kids.

"I thought bears would be special to the little kids so they would have something since they don't have a mom or a dad that's there to comfort them," says Barnes. "And I thought that it would be really personal if they were made especially for them."

She has continued raising money beyond the class project. If you would like to help her out, you can send checks to Kierstyn Barnes and send them to 9524 E. 81st St. Suite B 1546, Tulsa, OK, 74133.

Here's also a link to her "Bears of Hope" Facebook page:
