Fayetteville woman to be honored at White House

Posted: Updated:

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A Fayetteville woman is among 11 people who will be honored at the White House for their work on immigration issues.

The White House says L. Mireya Reith will be honored Tuesday as a Cesar Chavez "Champion of Change."

The White House says the award honors people who embody civil rights activist Cesar Chavez's legacy of welcoming and defending immigrants in the U.S.

Reith serves as executive director of Arkansas United Community Coalition, which works to empower immigrants. She is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and has also served as a municipal development volunteer with the Peace Corps in El Salvador.

Reith is also a member of the Arkansas Board of Education.
