LITTLE ROCK (AP) - The author of a book about
immigration reform says the DREAM Act recognizes that immigrants
brought to the U.S. illegally as children have done nothing wrong and
should be able to work and go to school.
William A. Schwab spoke in Little Rock on Monday
about the DREAM Act, which would offer citizenship to some young illegal
immigrants. The legislation narrowly passed the U.S. House before being
defeated in the Senate in 2010.
Schwab's comments come as an Arkansas legislator is proposing extending in-state tuition rates to some illegal immigrants.
Schwab is a professor of sociology and the former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas.
His book, "Right to DREAM: Immigration Reform and America's Future," advocates for the DREAM Act.
