Police arrested a Tulsa man Monday evening after he reportedly choked a woman's dog during an attempted robbery at her home.

Donald Ray Bell, 50, was arrested at the woman's home in the 2200 block of E. Seminole St. He was charged with first degree burglary and animal cruelty.

According to the police report, Bell entered the victim's home from the east side and ripped the screen off the window and then opened it. Bell attempted to enter the home through the window when she confronted him outside with her dog.

The officer wrote that Bell took the dog and put it in a "choke hold" and carried it around while choking it. The victim told police that she yelled at Bell to release the dog and both fell down to the ground during the altercation.

A witness at the scene grabbed a board from a neighbor and hit Bell over the head, according to the police report. Bell released the dog and left the scene on foot.

Police were able to make contact with him and noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person. He was taken into custody and sent to the Tulsa County Jail.
