Arkansas AG sues butcher shop over ground lamb

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Arkansas' attorney general is suing the owner of a butcher shop who allegedly mixed ground beef into products sold and labeled as ground lamb.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel filed a consumer-protection lawsuit Monday against Lonnie's Meat Market and Catering, Inc., and its owner, Lonnie Copeland.

McDaniel says consumers were duped into buying adulterated meat so the butcher shop could undercut its competitors.

No one answered the phone Monday at a number listed for the butcher shop.

The lawsuit comes after Copeland entered into an agreement with McDaniel in October to stop using beef heart in the ground beef he sold.

McDaniel's lawsuit seeks $25,000, plus an injunction to block Lonnie's Meat Market from adulterating or misbranding meat.

McDaniel says the butcher shop has locations in Conway and Heber Springs.
