LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Sergio Berkley scored 14 points, including two free throws in the final seconds, as Jacksonville held off Alma 56-53 to win the boys Arkansas Class 5A basketball title.
After Alma (23-7) had cut the Red Devils' lead to 54-53, Berkley's free throws sealed the game for Jacksonville (26-4). Alma missed a desperation 3-pointer with three seconds left and the Red Devils rebounded.
Jacksonville led 44-27 late in the third quarter, but the Airedales kept it close with four 3-pointers over the final 10 minutes while the Red Devils went cold.
Aaron Smith led Jacksonville with 17 and Keith Charleston had 13 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Alma's Brock Widders had six 3-pointers while scoring 31 points. Gage Jenson had 13 points. Jake Folkerts had 10 rebounds.
