Hundreds attend Arkansas Medicaid rally

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Several hundred people gathered on the steps of the Arkansas Capitol to show their support for expanding health care in the state.

Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe and Republican Sen. Jonathan Dismang each told the crowd Thursday that bipartisanship and compromise are needed to reach an agreement on expanding health coverage to the state's working poor.

Arkansas lawmakers are considering a plan that would allow Medicaid funds to purchase private insurance for the newly eligible through the exchange created by the federal health care law.

Beebe says he has seen movement on the Republican side and hopes that a compromise can come out of the session.
