Good Morning Oklahoma: Getting Out Stubborn Stains

Posted: Updated:

Spring brings sunshine, warm weather, green plants and great times.

But, it can also bring a lot of different stains to deal with while doing laundry.

Amy Bates from Merry Maids Tulsa stopped by Channel 8's Good Morning Oklahoma Tuesday morning. She offered these tricks for those stubborn spring stains.

Grass Stains: Brush off any grass or dirt with a plastic knife. Break down the stain with digestive enzyme tablets, which can be found at health food stores. Grind the tablets into powder and add cold water to form a thick paste. Spread the paste over the stain, let it sit for an hour and then wash.

GLUE STAINS: Kids get into sticky situations. Soften the dried glue stain by rubbing petroleum jelly on it, then scrape off the excess glue with a dull knife. Pre-treat the stain with a stain remover and wash in hot water.

Crayon Stains: Spray the back of the stain with WD-40 and let it sit for 10 minutes. Flip it over and spray the front. After another five minutes, rinse the stain with warm water. Most of the crayon will be gone. Use a little dishwashing liquid for remaining residue and then rinse it once more time.

Chocolate: Scrape away as much as possible, then rinse well with cold water. Dab on liquid laundry detergent. If an oil stain remains, dab at it with a stain stick. Launder as usual.

Blood: Skinned knees and scratched hands are bound to happen. Make a paste out of salt and cold water, rub it in and then run water through the fabric. If all else fails, try soaking in hydrogen peroxide.

Food Grease Stains: Salad dressing and Olive Oil, and Fries can make a mess. At a restaurant, grab the artificial sweetener. It absorbs the grease. Let it sit on the stain overnight.

OVERALL STAIN TIPS:
-catch spots early
-scrape debris before wash
-blot, don't rub in stains
-treat front and back of fabrics
-don't put in dryer without looking first
-soak tough stains
