Cable barrier bids for I-40 in Ark. opened

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Highway Commission has awarded a $6.1 million bid to a Michigan company for installation of a cable barrier along 42 miles of Interstate 40.

The panel on Monday awarded the bid to Nationwide Construction Group of Chesterfield Mich.

The highway department has been erecting the barriers along state highways to keep errant vehicles from crossing into the opposite lane of traffic.

The barrier contract approved Monday is for work in Pulaski, Lonoke, Prairie and Monroe counties. The barrier will stretch between North Little Rock and Brinkley.

The work is to start within a month and is to be complete in mid-2014.
