CONWAY (KATV) -

The Conway Police Department is standing behind its officers who were involved in a shooting Sunday.

Authorities say the officers followed Use of Force procedure.

This comes after Sunday's shooting in Conway, where three officers fired their weapons at a robbery suspect armed with a knife, according to Conway Police spokesperson LaTresha Woodruff.

Officers responded to Plaza Pointe apartments Sunday just before 2:00 p.m. to find a victim stabbed.

Outside the building, four officers confronted John Raines IV, 21, who was armed with a knife.

Woodruff says when Raines ignored commands to put the knife down, he was tased by Officer Rachel Hanson.

"Mr. Raines then lunged toward the officer with a knife in hand and at that point that's when our officers fired on him," Woodruff said.

According to woodruff, Officers Andrew Burningham, James Burroughs and Steven Culliford fired multiple shots and Raines was hit multiple times.

Woodruff said she could not give an exact number of shots.

What appear to be four bullet holes can be seen in the building on either side of the walkway, including two into the window of one apartment.

Neighbors say they are glad no one else was injured.

Conway Police Department's Use of Force policy states:

"Officers will use the minimum amount of force necessary and reasonable to control a situation, effect an arrest, overcome resistance to arrest, or defend themselves from hard.

Woodruff says protocol was followed.

Raines remains in the hospital. His condition is not available.

The four officers will remain on Administrative Inquiry for at least 48 hours.
