Sebastian Co. officer dies after patrol car crash

Posted:

LAVACA (AP) - Sebastian County authorities say a county sheriff's corporal has died of injuries suffered when his patrol car crashed in Lavaca.

The sheriff's department says Cpl. Terry Johnson died Saturday afternoon after being injured in the crash on state Highway 96 about 4:20 a.m. Saturday.

Sheriff's Investigator Philip Pevehouse says Johnson was on routine patrol at the time and that the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Pevehouse says the collision was reported by a resident who said he heard a loud crash then saw the patrol car on its side and off the roadway.

Johnson had worked for the sheriff's office since 1996 when he was hired as a detention deputy.

Pevehouse says the body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
