Tourism businesses to explore Arkansas promotions

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas tourism-related businesses have had more than a year to learn how to piggyback on the popularity of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, and they're about to get the opportunity to refine their strategies.

The annual Governor's Conference on Tourism runs Sunday through Tuesday in Hot Springs. The event features a Tuesday talk by Gov. Mike Beebe and it also features numerous sessions in which people in the hospitality industry can learn about targeting their advertising, incorporating the arts in their offerings and using social media to reach potential customers.

Deputy Tourism Director Marla Crider says Crystal Bridges has been a catalyst for tourism in northwest Arkansas and other regions. She says some visiting the museum fly into Little Rock, rent a car and travel the state,
