Dr. Morris Holmes Announces Resignation from LRSD

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Superintendent Dr. Morris Holmes announced his resignation from the Little Rock School District.  Thursday, LRSD school board President Dianne Curry announced she received a letter from the LRSD Superintendent indicating his intention to resign, effective March 22, 2013. 

According to the LRSD, the reason for his departure is said to be private in nature; Holmes stating, "I have given a good deal of energy to the job of Superintendent and have appreciated the work and relationships."

Curry responded with this statement:

"We regret Dr. Holmes will not be able to stay through June 30th, but we appreciate his tireless efforts of behalf all of the students and families in the District," said Curry.  "We will always be grateful that he came out of retirement to help us during this time, to stabilize this District and refocus our efforts on the needs of students."

The LRSD said the school board is assembling a transition team to manage the District between March 22nd and the arrival of the new Superintendent.  The remaining superintendent candidates will be interviewed Monday, March 4, and the board will meet the following day to begin deliberations on the selection.

Holmes has served as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in the Little Rock School District.

Little Rock police say 45 year old Leslie Webb got the attention of officers at La Harpe Boulevard and State Street Tuesday night.
