LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe says the Legislature's decision to override his veto of a 20-week abortion ban doesn't change his worries that the measure is unconstitutional and could cost the state in legal expenses.
The Democratic governor on Thursday told reporters nothing had changed about his opposition to the measure banning most abortions 20 weeks into a pregnancy after the Senate voted to override his veto. The House a day earlier overrode his veto.
The measure took effect immediately after the Senate vote.
Beebe also wouldn't say whether he'll veto another bill that would ban abortions 12 weeks into a pregnancy. The Senate gave final approval to that prohibition earlier Thursday. Beebe has said that restriction is more problematic than the 20-week ban he vetoed.
