Club for Growth targets GOP congressman in Ark.

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A conservative group is targeting Republican Congressman Rick Crawford of Arkansas and asking for the public to recommend primary opponents over his support for increasing taxes on millionaires in exchange for a balanced budget amendment.

The Club for Growth on Wednesday listed Crawford and eight other Republican lawmakers on its primarymycongressman.com website. The site targets congressman that the group says serve in safe Republican districts but have scored less than 70% on its scorecard on economic issues such as tax cuts.

Crawford last year proposed a 5% surtax on individual incomes exceeding $1 million a year in exchange for Congress passing a balanced budget amendment.

Crawford disputed the group's criticism and said he believed it boiled down to a disagreement with the group over permanent spending controls.
