Tulsa Residents Request Smaller Recycle Carts

Posted: Updated:

The fine tuning of Tulsa's new trash system continues.

And that's because some customers think the new recycling carts are just too big.

Right now, the carts are 96 gallons.

But some residents are hoping to get one half that size.

The TARE board is considering the idea, but needs to make sure the move does not violate the existing contract with the hauler.

"There is a small group of customers who requested a smaller recycling cart," says City spokesperson Liz Hunt.  "Whether that be for convenience of location of storage. Or some residents live in duplexes or triplexes and have built-in closets, and the 96-gallon carts don't fit into those closets."

Any extra cost to customers would be minimal.
