Ark. Senate expands lobbying 'cooling off' law

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - The Arkansas Senate has voted to expand a 1-year ban on former legislators becoming lobbyists to include the state's constitutional officers and judges.

The Senate on Wednesday unanimously approved a proposal by Republican Sen. David Sanders of Little Rock to expand the lobbying "cooling off" period approved by lawmakers two years ago. Sanders' proposal would apply to the state's seven constitutional officers, circuit judges, district judges, Supreme Court justices and Appeals Court judges and would prohibit them from becoming lobbyists for a year after their terms expire.

It would also place a 1-year lobbying ban on employees of those offices.

The bill now heads to the House for consideration.
