Family member of stranded cruise passengers talk about ordeal

Posted: Updated:

There are more than three thousand people currently stranded off the Gulf Coast onboard the Carnival Triumph.  The cruise ship isn't operational after an engine fire Sunday night.

The family members of the stranded group of passengers tell us their lucky if they can talk with their relatives for even a few minutes each day, but it's been enough time to relate just how horrible the conditions are on board.

Six women from Arkansas who are on the boat tell us their dream vacation became a nightmare after the engine fire on Sunday. There is no electricity, no working toilets, and as a result passengers say there is sewage in some sections of the ship.

Right now the Triumph is being towed slowly to Alabama. The accident happened about 150 miles off the Yucatan Peninsula, and now family members are being told their loved ones may not make it back to dry grounds until Thursday.  We'll have all the updates as they happen.
