Two parents arrested for excessive spanking

Posted: Updated:

NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Two parents were arrested Monday on charges of "spanking in excess."

Officers were called to the Silver City Courts Housing Project at 701 W. 18th Street just after 3:30 p.m. According to a police report, they heard slapping and a child screaming and crying inside one of the apartments.

When they went inside, they found 34-year-old Demetrice Burgess who said he was "giving his child discipline." The child's mother, 31-year-old Penny Johnson-Burgess, told the officers she had disciplined her child just before Demetrice with a cable television wire.

Both parents were arrested and all three of their children were put in Department of Human Services custody.
