Bald eagle shot dead in Pike Co.; reward for info

HIGHLAND (AP) - A bald eagle has been discovered shot dead in Pike County and wildlife officials are offering a $2,000 reward for information about the shooter.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said Monday that the federally protected raptor was found on private land on Feb. 2 near Highland in Pike County, along Arkansas Highway 26.

Wildlife officers say that since the eagle was found along a highway, it's possible that someone saw or heard something that could be helpful to investigators.

Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act federal wildlife statutes.

The $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to a conviction of the culprit.
