CONWAY COUNTY (Petit Jean Country Headlight) - Conway County Judge Jimmy Hart said the county could see improvements to a number of its bridges in 2013.

Judge Hart told the quorum court last week to expect some of the bridges - particularly in the northern part of the county - to undergo some major makeovers.

"We've got some bridges up there that have a three-ton weight limit and we don't have any choice," said Hart. "There's been a lot of activity up there and a lot of traffic and we're at the point where we're going to have to renovate or replace them."

The county is currently in the process of replacing the historic Fryer Bridge near Possum Trot. The bridge collapsed in April 2011 and, while construction is nearing completion, Judge Hart said contractors have encountered a few weather problems.

He said the new Fryer Bridge will be a concrete pre-cast bridge that meets state and federal highway standards and that it should be a major improvement over the previous bridge.
