Helicopter Pilot Lands Safely After Mechanical Malfunction

A helicopter pilot experienced a mechanical malfunction while taking off from Tulsa International Airport Wed., Feb. 6.

According to the owner of Crumpton Aviation, who owns the helicopter, the pilot was dropping off a passenger at TIA from Jones Riverside Airport.

After dropping off the passenger, the pilot took off from TIA when the tail rotor of the helicopter sheared off. The pilot skillfully avoided power lines, a gas tank and buildings before landing roughly.

According to a TIA representative, the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the cause.
