Friends of slain 17-year-old comfort grieving mother

NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) – Pam Howard didn't just lose her teenage daughter on Wednesday, she says she lost her best friend and "sidekick."

On Friday, the final two suspects linked to 17-year-old Jasmine Young's murder turned themselves into the Little Rock Police Department. Charles Robinson, 23, and an unidentified 17-year-old were arrested Friday. Justin Fletcher, 22, turned himself in Thursday.

For Howard, the arrests still do not take the pain away.

"I'm going to miss her smiles," said Pam Howard, Young's mother. "Jasmine just being Jasmine."

The popular North Little Rock student was an aspiring fashion designer. But on Wednesday she was shot dead on Asher Avenue while in a White Chevrolet Tahoe with friends.

Howard was comforted by some of Young's friends Friday night during a memorial in the North Little Rock High School cafeteria.

"My baby was an innocent bystander," said Howard, "and it's going to hurt so bad."

It also hurt the hearts of Young's friends still coping with loss.

"She loved her mom," said Winston Turner, a NLR High School administrator. "She's a young lady who worked a job to help out with the family. And she thought about her mom probably more so than anything else."

As friend after friend fought back tears talking about her on Friday, Jasmine's mother was the strongest person in the room. She said she would honor her slain teenager the only way she could.

"I'm doing what Jasmine would want me to do," Howard said. "She would want me to be strong and encourage her friends to always let your parents know where you're at. No matter what."

Police have not released a motive for the shooting. Only Fletcher has been formally charged.
