Weleetka Murders Day Two: Testimony Continues in Sweat Case

Posted: Updated:

Testimony has resumed in a preliminary hearing for a man accused of shooting two girls to death more than four years ago.

Okfuskee County prosecutors are questioning more witnesses Tuesday in the hearing for 27-year-old Kevin Sweat. Sweat faces two counts of first-degree murder in the June 2008 killings of 13-year-old Taylor Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker near Weleetka.

Sweat pleaded not guilty to the 2008 murders of Taylor Placker and Skyla Whitaker. Placker, 13, and Whitaker, 11, were found shot on a country road outside Weleetka.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Sweat is also charged with murdering his former girlfriend, Ashley Taylor, in 2011. He's set to go to trial in June for this case.
