LONOKE (KATV) - The vice chairman of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly banging on windows and firing a gun at the ground.

Witnesses told Lonoke County deputies 54-year-old Rick Watkins was banging on the windows of homes and businesses near the intersection of Highway 31 South and Highway 70.

Watkins was arrested on misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He has since been released.

Commission spokesperson Keith Stephens called the incident "a very serious matter" and said the agency is waiting to see how the situation unfolds before making any further statements.

Gov. Mike Beebe named Watkins to the commission. His 7-year term expires in 2014.

No property was damaged.
