SEARCY (KATV) - A routine traffic stop ended in a chase through Searcy's Southwest Middle School Thursday afternoon.

Police told Channel 7 News in a phone interview that an officer was doing a traffic stop just after 2:30 p.m. when he recognized the driver to be Michael Williams of Searcy, who was wanted on an arrest warrant for driving with a fake license plate, driving on a suspended driver's license and fleeing.

Williams allegedly got out of his car during the stop and ran toward the school, going inside directly into the cafeteria. He was arrested soon after.

Officers estimate he was only inside the school for a few seconds and he was not armed.

Because of the time of day, parents were lined up to pick up their kids from school and saw the whole thing unfold.

Williams was arrested on new counts of driving on a suspended driver's license, fleeing and trespassing on school grounds. He also allegedly had a counterfeit $100 bill inside his car.
